Breast Cancer Symptoms – The Smartest Thing to Do When You First Notice Breast Cancer Symptoms

by admin on 2009/12/14

Chances are, if you're going to get breast cancer, you'll probably notice some symptoms before everything goes haywire. You might find a lump in one or both of your breasts. There may be some discharge from your nipples. The skin around the breast may change shade or texture. Even the size and contour of your breast may change. In my opinion, the smartest thing to do when you first notice breast cancer symptoms is to relax. That's right, don't go running off for a mammogram just yet. Obviously, you don't want to wait forever before you find out what's happening, but taking a little time for education now could pay off big time down the road.

Now, let me say that most likely you don't have breast cancer at all. But if you do, I've noticed that once you're diagnosed, your head begins to spin and you lose all sense of bearing as you contemplate what's going on. Doctors are telling you all the things they're going to do to you, nurses are sticking you left and right, your family is confused and worried...it can be insane!

That's why I recommend taking even a couple days to familiarize yourself with all the different treatment options and educate yourself about breast cancer before you find out. Then if you do have a positive diagnosis at least you have some knowledge in there when things start to move too quickly. There's nothing worse than feeling utterly helpless, and that is precisely how you'll feel if you find out you have breast cancer and aren't prepared.

You may feel that the things your doctor is saying just don't make sense to you. And if you have no other information or options, you're out of luck. Education is definitely the smartest thing to do when you first notice breast cancer symptoms. It is always going to be your body and whether you believe it or not, you always have the power.
